The POSITIVE place for kids!
Y&FSS provides promotion, prevention and early intervention services in mental health for
school-aged children and their families dealing with a wide range of pressing issues that are preventing them from reaching their full potential.
All services are provided by qualified and trained professional mental health staff.
These services are free to members and families who attend BGCW. Services Y&FSS offers are also provided to school-age children and their families living in Sevilla Apartment Housing located in Weslaco. We have unit directors placed in elementary schools throughout Weslaco, providing students with skills-building and mental health prevention programs. Memorial, Silva, A.N. Tony Rico, and PFC Mario Ybarra are the current schools.
Increasing awarenes and understanding of mental health by decreasing the stigma attatched to it and encourge dialogues through community and school presentations, outreach and awareness events that lead to change.
Educating our youth on positive approaches to life's barriers such as bullying, anger management, positive and healthy relationships, self-esteem, positive decision making, and social emotion learning.
Identifying and addressing high-risk behaviors that can lead to further social emotional difficulties. Providing services to families to such as crisis resolution, one-on-one and group counseling, skill building and parent support.
Our on-site social service specialist and licensed clinician are available to assess the needs of our members and their families. They can provide one-on-one case management to connect to community resources, parental education and support, and provide external referrals for family needs.
