How We Are Helping

Our Mission.

Our vision is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.   We are a nonprofit organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. With the help of our tireless staff, we organize fundraisers, community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.

Making a Difference.

Boys & Girls Clubs provide young people with a safe place to go after school and during the summer as well as a positive outlet for their energy. Out-of-school hours serve as the essential link between school and home, offering the greatest opportunity to influence the future of our kids, our communities and our country. Boys & Girls Clubs of America seeks to ensure that all kids, especially those who need us most, have a positive and enriching experience when the school bell rings, putting them on the path to success.

Youth Safety.

Every young person deserves to feel emotionally and physically safe. The Club works to create a safe space for them everyday. Great Futures start with safe childhoods. Ensuring the safety of youth is fundamental to the mission of our Boys & Girls Clubs. Young people cannot thrive in environments that don’t meet their needs for physical and emotional safety.

Benefits of Membership

Traditional Site & Chartered Sites

Weslaco Main Unit

Our traditional site services its students from the surrounding schools. We currently have 225 registered members ranging from ages 5 to 17. Here we are able to provide community outreach programs, various sports leagues, health programs, and exercise programs for everyone, adults and children alike.

This brand new facility was built in 2013. It was all made possible by the hard work of The City of Weslaco, our board members, and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department who fought tirelessly to create such a wonderful opportunity for our youth of the community..

BGCW & Texas ACE Program

Texas ACE, After-school Centers on Education, is a grant program that helps foster students' academic success by improving attendance, behavior, and academics.  Administered by TEA, Texas Education Agency, and funded by the U.S. Department of Education's 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program.

As a Texas ACE grantee, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Weslaco Inc. is able to provide:

  • Tutorials
  • Enrichment activities to explore science, technology and the arts
  • Activities and training that help families support their students to be successful at school
  • Guidance that help students and their families access information about college and careers

Together with the Texas ACE program and Weslaco ISD, BGCW has been able to provide its programs at the local schools. The schools sites service over 900 kids through the year and 100 after-school children. Below is a list of the schools we are currently serving.

A.N. Tony Rico Elementary

Tony Rico Elementary is an extension site we added this school year.  We received a grant from Knapp Foundation to provide services like Smart Moves and Healthy Habits. 900 children will go through our program at this site alone by the end of the year.
